Why does my cat rub the top of his head on things?

Dogs and cats: Cats like to rub the top of their heads on their friends. When a cat does this to a dog, the dog doesn’t understand and will take the opportunity to sniff the top of the cat’s head instead. From this sniff, he will be able to confirm that this is his kitty friend and be able to tell who has been stroking the cat and where he has been.
